Project Overview

Koori Constructions delivered a three-phase construction program for Warlga Ngurra Women's & Children's Refuge, an Aboriginal-controlled safe accommodation and support service in Raymond Terrace. The project involved staged facility improvements to enhance safety, privacy, and amenity for women and children escaping family violence.

Working directly with Warlga Ngurra's management team, we coordinated construction around the refuge's 24/7 operations, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and staff. Our approach prioritised cultural safety, discretion, and trauma-informed site practices throughout all three phases.

Scope of Works

  • Internal fit-out and refurbishment of residential accommodation spaces
  • Bathroom and kitchen upgrades across multiple units
  • Security enhancements including fencing, lighting, and access control modifications
  • External painting and cladding repairs
  • Floor covering replacement and joinery upgrades
  • Compliance upgrades for fire safety and accessibility standards
  • Staged delivery across three separate contract phases to align with funding cycles

Outcomes

The completed works delivered improved safety, dignity, and comfort for women and children using Warlga Ngurra's essential services. All three phases were delivered on time and within budget, with close coordination between our team, the client, and support service staff.

This project demonstrates Koori Constructions' capability to deliver sensitive, culturally appropriate construction in Aboriginal community settings where trust, discretion, and trauma-informed practices are paramount.
